Naming Ceremonies

Celebrating a new life, your way

Increasingly Families look for ways to celebrate a new arrival in a joyous and personal way, but without religion.

Naming Ceremonies are not just for newborns, often they will take place on the child’s birthday or another date of significance to the family.

Naming Celebration

Naming Ceremonies can also be tailored to celebrate the blending of two families, an adoption, a coming of age or even a change of gender identity. I am happy to create unique celebrations to order for any occasion.

Namings can take place anywhere you like, in your garden with a few close friends and immediate family or a larger gathering in a venue of your choice.

I can make suggestions in terms of format and content, but the choice is entirely yours.

Naming Ceremonies – The Process

If you are interested in a Naming Ceremony we would have a short chat without any obligation on your part, for me to get a feel for what you want from the ceremony. It is also a chance for you to check that I am the right fit for you.

Should you choose me as your celebrant I ask for a £50 non refundable deposit to secure the date of your choice.

We would then meet to discuss what you would like to include in your celebration.

I can help you to write promises for you and the Guide Parents, choose poetry, readings, and any symbolic rituals that you might like to include such as a sand blending or the lighting of a candle.

I will draft a script seeking your input at every stage and rewriting it until you are completely happy with it.

On the day of your Naming Ceremony, I will deliver your ceremony and leave you with a presentation script and certificate as keepsakes of your special day.

Kind words

On Sunday 10th August the lovely Margaret led a special and beautiful naming ceremony for our son, Hugo. Before the event, we were clueless about what to include, but we didn’t need to worry because Margaret guided us through. The ceremony was perfect, lots of happy tears and a day we will never forget. Thank you Margaret.

Elaine Brooks

She made my granddaughter, naming day perfect. It was an absolutely lovely service. I would recommend her to anyone wanting a non-religious celebration.

Let’s talk!

It is a real privilege to have a part to play at significant time in a family’s life and this has given me a real sense of purpose in my own life and has reinforced my humanist beliefs.

I would love to help you create a Naming Ceremony to be remembered.
